France manager Didier Deschamps has called for Olivier Giroud to leave the Stamford Bridge in search of more playing time somewhere else. The Frenchman has been reduced to a fringe role after the arrival of Frank Lampard, who has preferred Tammy Abraham over him.
As a result, Giroud has been able to play only five matches in the league so far this season and Deschamps thinks that it would be better if the France strike goes to another club where he would be guaranteed playing time.
“His situation at Chelsea has not changed for two months,” said the France head coach, as per Mirror.
“It would be better for him, obviously, to go to a club where he will have more playing time.
“If he cannot have this playing time at Chelsea, the idea is to be able to have it elsewhere.”
He then went on to state that the final decision rests on the shoulders of Giroud but also suggested that the national team is selected based on the club form of the players, which means that the striker could lose his spot in the side if things don’t change for him.
“It is up to him to decide the solution. I don’t know what offers he has, where it might be possible for him to get more playing time. We saw each other not so long ago. As with every player, he’s the one who decides. But keep in mind that it’s the daily life of players with their clubs that leads to France selection.
“He knows it. It’s up to him to decide the best solution for himself.”
