The midweek fixtures have come and gone quicker than they were thrust upon us, and fantasy football managers are faced with further decisions as they look to pick their teams for the weekend.
We have the big Manchester derby on Saturday, and both teams are coming off midweek wins which are sure to have bolstered their confidence. Chelsea travel to Everton in an early kick-off while Liverpool will be looking to continue their unbeaten run against Bournemouth.
Brighton were mighty impressive as they defeated Freddie Ljungberg’s flailing Arsenal at the Emirates, but the Gunners don’t play until Monday night which will surely come as a respite for most Arsenal fans.
Some managers might look to rest some of their key players during this busy December, but it’s wise to hold on to your chips, at least for a while.
Here are 5 players to pick for your FPL team this weekend:
1. Richarlison (£7.8m)
While Everton find themselves in the relegation zone after the midweek loss to Liverpool, Richarlison’s header in the game saw him score his third goal in the last four matches. The Everton midfielder has also found the net against Southampton and Leicester City in that period, totalling 26 FPL points.
Chelsea travel to Goodison Park, and while they are favourites to win, Richarlison will be looking to take advantage of a Blues team that has struggled defensively on the road. They visit Merseyside without a clean sheet in their seven away matches, having conceded 14 goals on their travels.
2. Gabriel Jesus (£9.6m)
With Sergio Aguero out injured, Gabriel Jesus will be expected to start the all-important Manchester derby. The Manchester City striker has started six Gameweeks this term, scoring or assisting on five of those occasions, which includes a two-goal haul against Burnley in midweek that earned the Brazilian his season-high haul of 13 points.
Manchester United‘s defense is prone to errors, and Jesus can be expected to get the better of Harry Maguire going forward. This fixture has also been one to produce goals in recent seasons as the two sides have shared nine between them over their last two league meetings at the Etihad.
3. Harry Kane (£10.9m)
Despite going completely AWOL during the 2-1 defeat to United, Harry Kane is still in good form. The Tottenham Hotspur striker has scored three goals in his first four matches in all competitions under new head coach Jose Mourinho.
Kane also has a fine record against his weekend visitors Burnley. He has four goals and an assist in their last three meetings. Burnley have managed just one clean sheet away from home this season, with that coming against bottom-of-the-table Watford. Spurs will look to bounce back against a Clarets side with a poor defensive record on their travels.
4. Martin Kelly (£4.1m)
This one’s a bit of a differential, if you may. But it’s worth the risk, especially if you’re looking for a defender who’s cheap.
The Crystal Palace right-back looks set for an extended run of matches, with his main rival, Joel Ward (£4.5m), ruled out for up to two months. Martin Kelly has started and has kept two clean sheets in previous two matches.
The 29-year-old has provided a consistent source of returns, with attacking or defensive points in six of his eight starts. Bottom side Watford have no ammunition moving forward which is why Palace have a good chance of keeping another here.
5. Jamie Vardy (£9.9m)
It seems like we’re stuck in an FPL version of Groundhog Day when it comes to selecting Jamie Vardy. Aiming to extend a seven-match scoring streak, Jamie Vardy (£9.9m) is likely to maintain his status as the most-selected captain in Fantasy Premier League.
Over two million managers handed the Leicester City striker the armband against Watford in Gameweek 15. And a converted penalty at home against the Hornets took his total to nine goals, three assists and 69 points in the Foxes’ last seven fixtures. Leicester’s absence from any of the European competitions means Brendan Rodgers is less likely to rest his talisman anytime soon, especially not against Aston Villa tonight.
Other captain picks could include Liverpool’s Sadio Mane (£12.2m), Mohammed Salah (£12.2m), Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham (£7.9m), and Tottenham’s Son Heung-min (£9.8).
