Frank Lampard Confident He’ll Have Final Say Over Chelsea’s January Transfers

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is confident that he’ll make the final decision on any new signings the club makes during the January transfer window.

The Blues were originally barred from making any new signings until next summer but the Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned the decision to a one-window ban – leaving Chelsea free to sign new players in January.

And while Lampard admits he won’t be adding any household names to his squad, the 41-year-old is confident that he’ll be given a say in any transfer business at Chelsea by club director Marina Granovskaia.

“If I say I want [KylianMbappé, [CristianoRonaldo and [LionelMessi for my front three I might get knocked back,” Lampard said, quoted by football.london.

“I wouldn’t say that, but it’s obviously a balance where I can put forward a recommendation and have an open conversation with the owner and hope we move forward in the right direction. I’m very open about that.

“My biggest thing here is how hard can we work on the training ground because I know we have a good squad, that’s my main concern.

“Of course when it comes to recruitment I want to have a big say in it and we are very open.”

Chelsea have already been linked with a handful of new players since their ban was lifted, including a sensational club-record deal for Crystal Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha.

But Lampard insists the club will not sign players for the sake of bringing new faces into the dressing room, stressing that any January additions have to have the right work ethic and ambitions to be part of their project.

“Work ethic,” he added. “I think a desire to run. A capacity to run and then a desire to do it, because they are not always the same thing.

“A will to win and to be successful at the club. Of course, we want to sign talented players, that’s obvious, but I think that’s a huge thing for me because if you want to look at it, and people keep talking about balance and don’t upset the squad, then we want people to come here with a real intention to be a success.”
