Jose Mourinho is widely considered as one of the best managers in the history of the sport and during his career he has managed some world class players. Here, we take a look at five of his

5. Andriy Shevchenko (AC Milan to Chelsea) – €43.8m

Andriy Shevchenko

Chelsea broke their transfer record back in 2006 to sign Andriy Shevchenko from AC Milan, which was something of a coup considering that they were getting a player who was at his peak and widely considered as the best striker in the world at the time.

However, the Ukranian struggled at Stamford Bridge, looking like a shadow of the player he was in Italy, only managing to score 23 goals during his two-year spell before he was sent back on loan to Milan.

He returned back a year later and only made one appearance post which he was sent packing to Dynamo Kyiv.

A Jose Mourinho favourite, Nemanja Matic was a regular during his time at Chelsea and as expected was one of the first names signed when he took over the managerial reigns at Manchester United.

It is safe to say that the Serbian has not been as effective at United as was for the Blues and currently finds himself on the periphery under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

3. Fred (Shakhtar Donetsk to Manchester United) – €59m

That both Manchester United and City fought for Fred’s signature showed how highly rated he was during his time at Shakhtar. However, he has been anything but good for the Red Devils as he has struggled to impose himself in England.

It will be interesting to see whether he remains at Old Trafford at the end of the season or will be sold by the club management.

Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba’s return to Manchester United was highly anticipated and many were thrilled when the club made him the then most expensive player in the world by paying 105million to Juventus in 2016.

While he has been their best player, the Frenchman has been wildly inconsistent and for many has not lived up to his price tag, there is no doubting that the midfielder on his day is one of the best players in the Premier League.
