Pedro Opens Up on His ‘Wish’ to Return to Barcelona as Chelsea Contracts Winds Down

Chelsea winger Pedro has admitted that he ‘wishes’ for a return to former club Barcelona, owing to the great affection he still holds for old side.

Pedro joined Chelsea from Barcelona in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee potentially rising to €30m. He could play his 200th game for the Blues at some point this season and has won the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League as a Chelsea player.

Yet Barça have a special pull on Pedro, a World Cup winner with Spain in 2010, that cannot be replicated. If the chance to go back to Camp Nou was there, he’d take it.

“I wish I could be given that option,” the 32-year-old is quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo following an appearance on a local radio show.

“Everyone knows what I feel for the club and it is evident that it is a possibility to return. I have always said it. The club is a club for which I have a special affection because it is who I am.

“I lived many experiences there. I was there for many years and felt very loved by all.”

Pedro has struggled for playing time at Chelsea this season through a combination of injury and falling out of favour under new manager Frank Lampard.

He has featured just twice in the Premier League since August and not at all in the Champions League since October. He hasn’t even made the bench for any game so far this month.

Pedro is due to be out of contract at Chelsea at the end of this season, meaning he could be available as a free transfer in summer and begin talking to non-English clubs in January.

But while he wants to go back to Barcelona and thinks it is ‘possible’, he has admitted he doesn’t know who at Camp Nou would be in charge of overseeing a deal.

“What I don’t know is whether a return would be in the hands of the coach, the president or who. For [Barcelona], my return is difficult, but it is clearly a possibility,” he said.
