Former champions Leicester City appear to be the nearest challengers to the Reds this season courtesy of impressive performances as all clubs fight for the best position on the league table.
The season is nearing the halfway point and research organisation, the CIES Football Observatory have taken the initiative and ranked each club’s best player so far.
The results of their research are based on six specific areas: rigour, recovery, distribution, take-ons, chance creation and shooting.
Check out the full list below:
Aston Villa – Jack Grealish
Bournemouth – Nathan Ake
Brighton & Hove Albion – Pascal Gross
Burnley – Dwight McNeil
Crystal Palace – Martin Kelly
Everton – Richarlison
Leicester City – Jamie Vardy
Newcastle United – Allan Saint-Maximin
Norwich City – Teemu Pukki
Sheffield United – John Fleck
Southampton – Danny Ings
Watford – Gerard Deulofeu
West Ham United – Andriy Yarmolenko
Wolverhampton Wanderers – Raul Jimenez
What’s interesting to see in this list is that Nicolas Pepe is actually Arsenal’s key-man this season when it comes to the analysis characteristics mentioned above. It is quite easy to see that the Pepe agenda is all about stats and not about performances.
The rest of the list is quite objective and obvious. Jorginho has been instrumental for Chelsea, Son has been the leader of Mourinho’s new look Tottenham. Virgil van Dijk has been the face of Liverpool, Kevin de Bruyne has been incredible for City whereas Marcus Rashford is once again in form for Manchester United.
