Chelsea manager Frank Lampard showed signs of dissatisfaction with the performance of Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi when he opt for Giroud ahead of him in their PL home defeat to West Ham United.
Michy is yet to start a PL game this season as English-man Abraham have been leading the front line for the West Londoners. The Belgian only managed to come from the bench in eight occasions.
With Tammy out injured, one would have thought that it’s time for Batshuayi to showcase what he’s made of. But that seem not to be the case at the moment.
In the game against West Ham, Lampard opt for Olivier Giroud to lead the attack and also make a very shocking substitution and reshuffling. He brought on Hudson-Odoi in place of Giroud and switched Pulisic to a center forward role when Batshuayi was on the bench. His body language tells us that he lacks confident in Michy.
Why is Lampard denying Michy playing time?
This is a very important question every Blues should be asking when he looks carefully at the stats:
Playing Time (PL): 970 mins
Playing Time (UCL): 386 mins
Playing Time (EFL): 12 mins
Goals (PL): 10
Goals (UCL): 1
Goals (EFL): 0
Playing Time (PL): 81 mins
Playing Time (UCL): 67 mins
Playing Time (EFL): 168 mins
Goals (PL): 1
Goals (UCL): 1
Goals (EFL): 3
After a look at the stats above what do you think? In my own view Michy isn’t doing badly. His stats is better than Tammy’s stats, the advantage for Tammy is the playing time which is what Michy is missing.
CFC fans in Nigeria have been calling on Lampard to give Michy an equal chance to challenge Tammy for a place in the starting squad.
Here are some of the points put forward by the fans:
- Abraham is not a big match player – Starting from the Super Cup against Liverpool, we saw how disappointing he was, missing chances and going on to miss the penalty as well. Also in the PL against Man United, Leicester, Liverpool and Man City, Tammy has failed to turned up in those games.
- Michy is a potential big match winner – Recall what happened in 2017/18 UCL clash against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano. How about the 2019/20 EFL Cup 4th round against Man United and the 2019/20 UCL Group H round 3 clash against Ajax in Amsterdam?
- Abraham does not have the strength to stretch defenders like the Belgian does.
